Message from the Chair of Governors

It has been my privilege to be the chair of governors at Y Bont Faen Primary school since 2023, having previously been a member of the Governing Body as a community governor. I have lived in Cowbridge since 1998, and my son enrolled as a pupil at Y Bont Faen when we first moved to the area.

Y Bont Faen is fortunate to have a varied, committed and professional team of governors, drawn from parents of children at the school, local county and town councillors, members of staff and members of the Cowbridge community. As governors our role is to provide support and strategic leadership, and to oversee the standard of the education provided. Governors are often described as ‘critical friends’ of the school staff management team.

Our role is made easier due to the quality of the staff, senior leadership team, and the Headteacher currently at Y Bont Faen Primary School. We are also lucky in our school campus, which is situated in the centre of our town, and which has extensive outdoor space and sports facilities, with a running track and cycle track, as well as an outdoor classroom, polytunnel garden area and forest school.

We are also a school which is in the heart of the community in every other way too. Y Bont Faen contributes to local events with a float in the Cowbridge Reindeer Parade and Pride Parade, children’s choirs attending other seasonal events and displays, and with regular open days at which all are welcome. We hold a Christmas market and a Spring Fayre, and events in support of Macmillan Cancer Support and other charities. We have also built strong links with local businesses, Rotary, local churches, Cowbridge Town Council, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and South Wales Police.

We also pride ourselves on being a primary school, built exclusively around the education, needs and welfare of children aged between 3 and 11 years, with specialist, qualified and experienced staff who have dedicated their careers to working in this field. We are the only English medium primary school in Cowbridge to provide this dedicated service and will remain committed to doing so.
